Davido’s ORIADÉ Review: A Confident Return to His African Roots

Davido My Light featuring Llona artwork

Fifteen years after bursting onto the Nigerian music scene, Davido is no longer chasing validation. He’s protecting a legacy.

His sixth studio album, ORIADÉ, arrives at a significant moment in his career, serving as both a celebration of his journey and a reminder of why he has remained one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars for over a decade.

At just 13 tracks and roughly 36 minutes long, ORIADÉ is Davido’s shortest studio album to date. Rather than packing the project with filler, he keeps things concise, delivering a body of work that knows exactly what it wants to be.

The title itself carries meaning.

Derived from the Yoruba words Ori (head or destiny) and Adé (crown), ORIADÉ reflects destiny, achievement, and royalty, themes that quietly run through the album.

Familiar Territory, Executed Well

Anyone expecting Davido to completely reinvent himself may be surprised.

ORIADÉ doesn’t attempt to rewrite the Afrobeats rulebook.

Instead, it embraces the formula that has made Davido one of Africa’s most dependable hitmakers.

The project moves comfortably between love songs, motivational records, feel-good anthems, and reflective moments, all tied together by his unmistakable vocals and infectious melodies.

Throughout the album, Davido sounds relaxed and confident, choosing consistency over experimentation.

Sometimes that’s exactly what listeners want.

The Songs That Stand Out

A handful of records immediately separate themselves from the rest.

B4 B4, featuring Mayorkun and FOLA, is undoubtedly the commercial standout. The chemistry between all three artists feels effortless, resulting in a record built for playlists, clubs, and radio.

Tell Everybody, alongside Leon Thomas, offers one of the album’s smoothest moments. Leon’s soulful vocals complement Davido perfectly, creating a collaboration with strong crossover appeal.

Julie reminds listeners why Davido has remained one of Afrobeats’ most reliable hitmakers when it comes to love songs, while Gimme Dat Ting and I Know Who I Be inject the project with the energetic bounce fans have come to expect.

Meanwhile, Amazing Grace with Black Sherif and Yaya featuring Aya Nakamura broaden the album’s appeal without overshadowing its central identity.

Every feature serves a purpose.

No guest appearance feels unnecessary.

A Safe Album, But Not a Weak One

One of ORIADɑs biggest strengths is also what some critics may see as its biggest weakness.

It rarely takes major risks.

Davido isn’t chasing experimental production or trying to follow every new trend dominating the genre.

Instead, he focuses on delivering polished Afrobeats records that play to his strengths.

For some listeners, that familiarity will be comforting.

Others may wish for a few more surprises.

Neither perspective is entirely wrong.

Commercial Performance

Commercially, ORIADÉ has enjoyed an impressive start.

The album debuted at No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria while performing strongly across several African markets.

Tracks like B4 B4 quickly became fan favourites, helping drive conversation around the project during its opening weekend.

Although its first-day Spotify numbers didn’t surpass every previous Davido release, the album has shown healthy momentum, suggesting it has the staying power to remain in rotation.

Final Verdict

ORIADÉ isn’t Davido’s boldest album.

It isn’t his most experimental either.

What it does offer is clarity.

After 15 years in the industry, Davido understands exactly who he is as an artist, and this album reflects that confidence.

Rather than chasing every trend, he delivers a focused, enjoyable project built on strong melodies, quality production, and carefully selected collaborations.

In a year where artists like Asake continue pushing the boundaries of street-pop, ORIADÉ reminds listeners that consistency remains one of Davido’s greatest strengths.

It may not redefine Afrobeats, but it doesn’t need to.

It simply reinforces why Davido remains one of the genre’s biggest names.
