Fast-rising Nigerian singer and songwriter Taves has officially released his debut studio album titled “Popstar – Side A.”
Released on July 22, 2026, through the Mother Africa Reigns Supreme imprint, popularly known as MARS, the eight-track project represents a defining step in Taves’ rapidly developing music career.
Across the album, the talented artist explores his evolving Afro-pop identity through infectious melodies, expressive songwriting and contemporary production. The project combines modern Afrobeats with alternative influences, allowing Taves to present a sound that feels personal, refreshing and commercially appealing.
Ahead of the album’s release, Taves hosted an exclusive listening party at Ori Bar in Ikeja, Lagos, where invited guests and notable personalities from Nigeria’s alternative music community received an early experience of the project.
“Popstar – Side A” also draws inspiration from the celebrated Nollywood era of the 1990s and early 2000s. References to familiar cultural figures, including actress Uche Jombo, help the project blend Nigerian nostalgia with Taves’ contemporary pop sensibilities.
From the energetic opening track, “Chaos,” to the closing song, “Take Me Away,” the album showcases different sides of the singer’s artistry. Its melodic compositions, polished production and thoughtful themes offer listeners a balanced introduction to Taves as an emerging Afro-pop star.
