Nigerian music icon D’banj returns with a new single titled “Safe Space,” a reflective yet upbeat record that explores the importance of protecting one’s peace, mind and emotional wellbeing.

Released in September 2026, “Safe Space” marks D’banj’s first official single of the year and follows his 2025 release “Tobari.” The song is released through DKM Media under exclusive licence to Cinq Music Group, opening another chapter in the veteran artist’s long-running career.

Musically, D’banj takes a different route from some of the records that defined his earlier career. “Safe Space” blends contemporary Afrobeats with Afro-Latino influences, creating a rhythmic backdrop that feels fresh while leaving enough room for his distinctive vocal presence and performance style.

The idea behind the record is equally personal. In an interview with Guardian Life, D’banj explained that the song was inspired by the need to protect one’s mental and emotional space in a world filled with pressure, information and noise. He described the mind as an important safe space and connected the concept to family, wellness, environment and the people one chooses to keep close.

The release also arrives as part of a wider rollout involving D’banj’s C.R.E.A.M Platform and Cinq Music Group, with the song receiving a dedicated release campaign across several cities. The C.R.E.A.M Platform has also prominently featured the record as part of its current music offerings.

More than two decades into his career, D’banj continues to introduce new sounds while retaining the charisma that has remained central to his music. From the Mo’ Hits era and records such as “Fall in Love” and “Oliver Twist” to his more recent releases, “Safe Space” adds another contemporary entry to his catalogue without simply recreating his earlier sound.
